How to Start a Shopify Sale at Midnight
Midnight launches are a staple of online retail — a sale that goes live at 12:00am builds anticipation and gives night-owl shoppers first crack. But midnight is exactly when you don't want to be logged into Shopify changing prices by hand. Here's how to start a sale at midnight without setting an alarm.
Why midnight is harder than it looks
- You have to be awake. Push the prices early and you lose margin; push them late and you miss the moment.
- Timezones get confusing. Midnight for you isn't midnight for every customer — you need to be clear which timezone the sale runs on.
- Bulk edits take time. Changing prices across a big catalogue isn't instant, so a manual "go" at 12:00 is really a 12:00–12:20 rollout.
The clean way to launch at midnight
- Decide your timezone. Match it to your store's primary market and state it in your marketing so expectations line up.
- Prepare the sale in advance. Set the products, discounts, and compare-at prices days ahead — not on the night.
- Schedule the start for 00:00. A scheduling tool applies every price change at the same instant, so the whole catalogue goes live together.
- Pair it with an end time. Decide when it stops while you're at it, so the sale closes itself too.
Make the launch feel like an event
A midnight start works best when shoppers know it's coming. A few things that help:
- Tease the exact start time in email and on social.
- Add a countdown to your homepage so the moment feels real.
- Make sure your first-hour bestsellers are well stocked.
Do that, and the sale lands the second the clock ticks over — while you're asleep.
